So you finally got to the perfect camping site. The tent is up, the fire made, and dinner is cooking. You think to yourself; this would make a great photo. You grab your camera and turn it on, only to discover that the battery is dead.
You forgot to charge the battery, and now you are stuck without being able to capture this idyllic moment. If only you had a generator to plug all of your electronics in.
Since they’re so loud, however, it would wreck the serene quiet that you have come to expect from being out in nature. While it would be great to have power, you don’t want it to come at the expense of this serene scene.
Look no further than the following list! Here, we will highlight ten of the quietest generators on the market.
We have tested them all, and will give you a review of the top three so that you can find the best quiet generator for your outdoor needs.
When you are trying to find the best quiet generator, you need to take into account several key factors.
Portability. You obviously will want a generator that isn’t too heavy if you are thinking of taking it camping with you, whether that will be in a tent or an RV. If it is on the heavier side, be sure that you find one that has wheels for easier transportation.
Power Output. While the main goal here is to find a generator that won’t wake or even bother the neighbors, you also want to make sure that it has plenty of power for all of your needs.
You should always try to compare what types of wattage your electronics require and the output of the generator to make sure you get one that can handle the jobs you have in mind.
Decibel Level. The more decibels produced by a generator, the louder it will be. Each of the models that we tested had a decibel range of 50-60 decibels, depending upon the amount of power that we were using. The more things you have plugged in, the louder the generator will be.
The general rule of thumb in campgrounds is that a generator should be no louder than 68 decibels at a distance of 50 feet.
This generator has many of the same features as our number one pick, but it is not quite as powerful. While it is extremely quiet, only 53 dB at ¼ load, it would not be a good choice to power bigger electronics since it only runs at 1600 watts.
This is still plenty of power for charging smaller electronics, but would not be enough for bigger items.
What might make this an attractive buy, however, is the price.
It is about half the price as the Honda generator, and therefore might make more sense for someone who is not looking for lots of power, but just enough to keep their smaller electronics going.
This is a very quiet generator that doesn’t produce quite as much power as others that we tested. However, its portability and price might make it a good buy for the right consumer.
Of our top three, this generator puts off the most power, which means that it can give you the most output and allow you to power more of your electronics; this makes it great for use with an RV or for camping.
The electric start is also a nice touch since it allows you to start it up with one push of a button.
However, this extra power does not come without a price. The decibel level on this generator is the highest of our top three. Its lowest output is 68 dB and will only get louder the more electronics that you hook up to it.
This generator is also the heaviest, weighing in at 122 pounds. While it is still portable, this is not a generator that you can fit in the back of your car with ease, which might make it less than ideal for tent camping or tailgating.
This generator gives off plenty of power but is also the loudest of our top three. This generator would be a good choice for RV camping but might be a bit too cumbersome for other outdoor activities.
Plenty of power
One push start
Good for RV camping
One of the louder generators as compared to others
Rated at 3800 watts, the WEN 56380i quiet generator offers the most power. With more power, you would expect the noise level to be louder as compared to other generators. However, it has an impressive 57 dBA which is quiet.
